Day 4 Inspection of EU cattle trucks at the Turkish border

June 29, 2017

Cattle trucks at the Turkish border

Today our teams have had a talk with the owners of the feeder bulls who have been in stables at the border here for three weeks. They have again asked us to urge the Bulgarian government to allow the animals to return to Bulgaria. The letter about this has been sent in the meantime. We have little hope that permission will be given. Another option is that the animals are … [Read more...] about Day 4 Inspection of EU cattle trucks at the Turkish border

Day 3 Inspection of EU cattle truckst at the Turkish border

June 28, 2017

At the feeding station

Today we got permission to see the bulls that have been stuck at the Turkish border for three weeks. They are well looked after, have sheltered stables, have fresh water and get (good) food regularly. In general, they are in good condition and people are trying to keep it that way. There is still hope that they can be sold as feeder bulls, as they are worth more than bulls … [Read more...] about Day 3 Inspection of EU cattle truckst at the Turkish border

Day 2 of Inspection of EU cattle trucks at the Turkish border

June 27, 2017

Today, a team from EonA and TSB | AWF has again carried out an inspection at the border. We visited the feeder bulls at both of the locations where they have been for 3 weeks. The staff of the stables do their best, but during our visit we saw 2 dead bulls. Our organizations are working hard to get the bulls out of here. We will keep you informed. We also inspected 6 … [Read more...] about Day 2 of Inspection of EU cattle trucks at the Turkish border

May 30, 2017

Emptying out of a laying-hen farm

Tonight a team from Eyes on Animals was conducting random inspections of animal transports on the roads in the Netherlands. We spotted two empty Polish poultry trucks heading towards a farm in Drenthe (NL). We followed in order to check on how the hens at the egg farm would be handled during loading before being transported for slaughter in Poland.  Birds were held upside … [Read more...] about Inspection of emptying out of a laying-hen farm

Practical-training of Official Road Inspectors (ITD) in Lublin – Day 1, Poland

April 3, 2017

Tied on by the horns - painful and illegal

Today we stopped and inspected 6 livestock trucks during our practical training course for the Polish authorities. The welfare of the animals, the condition of the vehicles and the transport papers were checked. The pig trucks only had minor infringements related to incomplete transport papers. The poultry truck had the same problems as we still too often see during … [Read more...] about Practical-training of Official Road Inspectors (ITD) in Lublin – Day 1, Poland

Eyes on Animals was invited to this conference by EU-contacts who are responsible for animal transport. In the Netherlands NVWA is the organisation that handles these transports and likewise every member of the EU has its own department. We gave a presentation in which we suggested improvements that need to be installed, or already have been installed, in livestock … [Read more...] about EU conference in Grange (Ireland): Designing Better Conditions for Animal Transport

Skaryszew horse market – Day 1, Poland

After the luxury of 1.5 hours of sleep our Eyes on Animals and TSB|AWF teams are back on the road again with the ITD (official Polish Road Transport Inspectors) officers to check on livestock-transports leaving the Skaryszew horse market. We also catch trailers in bad technical condition and problematic international transports that leave the market without proper … [Read more...] about Skaryszew horse market – Day 1, Poland

Inspection of Skaryszew horse market, Poland- Nighttime

March 5, 2017

Our Eyes on Animals and TSB|AWF team is visiting the annual horse market in Skaryszew. It takes place once a year and hundreds of horses are sold for leisure, breeding, work and slaughter.
