Inspection horse market Hedel

November 7, 2022

Eyes on Animals visited the yearly horse market in Hedel this week. We joined the House of Animals’ team, who have been hiring professional bodyguards the last few years, in order to protect our teams against malicious visitors of this horse market.  When we arrived around midnight, there were no horses/ponies yet, so we could get a good overview of the layout of … [Read more...] about Inspection horse market Hedel

Legal action against horse market Hedel for massive EU law violations

November 4, 2019

Eyes on Animals is supporting legal action against the horse market in Hedel because agreements about better animal welfare have not been met. The EU Transportation regulations are still being massively and structurally violated. Also, sick and injured horses did not receive medical care.  For the most recent inspection, Eyes on Animals teamed up with House of … [Read more...] about Legal action against horse market Hedel for massive EU law violations

Inspection of horsemarket in Hedel, NL

Exhausted horses on the market

From midnight until early morning on October 10th, an Eyes on Animals team attended the horse market in Hedel. We were accompanied by two journalists of Animals Today, who themselves had invited a security guard of BBA-A (Bouncers Against Animal Abuse). The reason for these precautions was that two years ago they, and us, were physicially and verbally harassed by … [Read more...] about Inspection of horsemarket in Hedel, NL

Inspection of Skaryszew horse market – Day 1, Poland

March 6, 2017

There are by far fewer horses than last year, we count about 250-300. There were fewer horses kept under the roof area of the market this year, but too many to keep a safe distance between them. Some of the horses standing next to each other try to bite and kick. Again, no one cares about feeding and watering the horses, so the basic needs of many of them are not provided … [Read more...] about Inspection of Skaryszew horse market – Day 1, Poland

Skaryszew horse market – Day 1, Poland

March 6, 2017

After the luxury of 1.5 hours of sleep our Eyes on Animals and TSB|AWF teams are back on the road again with the ITD (official Polish Road Transport Inspectors) officers to check on livestock-transports leaving the Skaryszew horse market. We also catch trailers in bad technical condition and problematic international transports that leave the market without proper … [Read more...] about Skaryszew horse market – Day 1, Poland

Police (ITD) training and night inspections before Skaryszew horse market, Poland

March 5, 2017

Police (ITD) training and night inspection

As one of our EonA and TSB|AWF team spends the night inspecting the Skaryszew horse market itself, a second EonA and TSB|AWF team joins the Polish Road Transport Inspectors (ITD) to inspect livestock trucks bringing horses to the market at night. Some vehicles have already arrived and are arranged in a long line-up for veterinary inspection. Some are still on the way. … [Read more...] about Police (ITD) training and night inspections before Skaryszew horse market, Poland

Inspection of Bemmel horse market, The Netherlands

August 15, 2016

Young foal on the market

Eyes on Animals inspected the horse market in Bemmel on August 15, 2016. The condition of most of the ponies and donkeys that we saw was good, except for one donkey with a foal that was extremely thin. The relatively large number of young foals on the market is worrisome: their welfare is compromised whilst they deserve special legal protection. Aside from the fact that … [Read more...] about Inspection of Bemmel horse market, The Netherlands

Meeting with RDA about horse-welfare at markets, The Netherlands

July 12, 2016

Meeting with the Council for Animal Affairs (RDA)

Eyes on Animals has discussed its views with the Council for Animal Affairs (RDA) for the adjustments needed to better safeguard the welfare of horses at horse markets. We have drawn up a long list of conditions that a horse market should provide to meet all animal welfare and transport regulations. "Horse market towns" will have to choose: do they want to hold a festival, … [Read more...] about Meeting with RDA about horse-welfare at markets, The Netherlands

Inspection horse Barneveld, NL

Horsemarket Barneveld

Two EonA inspectors went to the horse market in Barneveld, which takes place weekly on Monday mornings. This horse market is only intended for the trade in horses and has no activities such as a fair or amusement park attached. The duration is limited: from 07:00-12:00hrs. This morning about 75 horses and ponies were counted. Between 06:00 and 07:00hrs the trailers … [Read more...] about Inspection horse Barneveld, NL

Inspection of Hedel horse market, NL

03.11.2014_gecoupeerdePaarden

Eyes on Animals was present at the horsemarket in Hedel, November 3rd, with two inspection teams. The first team walked around on the market starting at 1:15 AM. During the first few hours, it rained very hard. Luckily it stopped so the horses, and especially two donkeys who were already present and whose coat is not resistant against rain and who are legally entitled to … [Read more...] about Inspection of Hedel horse market, NL

Flames billow from a hog barn near Simcoe, Ont., Tuesday as firefighters battle a blaze that left at least 20,000 hogs dead.
Utterly, utterly catastrophic.
An unimaginable cruel death
