- September 03, 2024: The magazine published by the German animal-welfare organization Deutsche Tierschuetzorganization, printed an article about upright catching of chickens and EonA’s trainings.
- September 02, 2024: NieuweOogst, the Dutch newspaper on agricultural topics, publishes an article about EonA’s work at inspecting and protecting pigs from heat stress when transported in the summer. This article focuses on what was achieved at the Dutch pig abattoirs to provide shade, ventilation etc…
- June 21, 2024: NRC, the main national daily Dutch newspaper, printed a 3-page article about Eyes on Animals and a recent inspection we made of very young Irish calves transported for several days to veal farms in the Netherlands.
- April 30, 2024: Foodlog, a well-read Dutch online news platform all about food production, publishes an article of ours about the Netherlands exporting live chicks to Ghana without first reflecting on slaughter conditions there. While they make millions, they leave it to a small local NGO like WACPAW, and even EonA, to improve abattoirs there.
- March 30, 2024: The world-known and very respected veterinary journal “ Vet Record” published 2 articles in their recent issue about our project to completely re-design and improve automatic electric stunning so that the use of CO2 to stun pigs during slaughter, which causes pain and breathelessness, be phased out.
- February 28, 2024: opinion weekly De Groene Amsterdammer publishes an article titled: The Belgium route. By Hester de Boer and Annick Hus. Flanders as a drain for Dutch lame livestock. European legislation prohibits member states from transporting sick or injured livestock, including across national borders. Yet the Dutch livestock industry still dumps lame animals in Flemish slaughterhouses. This article also includes a contribution from Eyes on Animals on inspection, with the aim of gaining more insight into this ‘Belgium route’.
- February 14, 2024: Zembla online news publishes an article about veal meat giant Van Drie being brought to court for being involved in importing calves from Ireland knowing from EonA, EFI and L214 that they are not being fed according to the EU regulations.
- January 08, 2024: The Irish Mirror publishes a long article about the dead cattle washed-up on a French beach from a livestock vessel that had left Ireland in very stormy weather and had to emergency anchor off of France. EonA together with other NGOs drew the attention of the authorities and media to this horror.
2023
- November 30, 2023: Agriland, Ireland’s largest Farmers’ News Portal, published an article about the formal complaint submitted by Ethical Farming Ireland and other animal welfare organizations, including Eyes on Animals, regarding a live export of 2000 weanlings and adult bulls during very poor sea conditions.
- September 5, 2023: The investigative program Zembla publishes an extensive article about heat stress during transportation and our letter to the minister calling for a ban on transportation above 25 degrees Celsius.”
- August 25, 2023: The local newspaper, “De Gelderlander,” published an article about our heatstress inspection at VION pig slaughterhouse in Groenlo (NL).
- July 10, 2023: Eyes on Animals, L214 and Ethical Farming Ireland released their report and film about their investigation into the fate of unwanted calves from the Irish dairy industry that head on long journeys to factory veal farms in the Netherlands. - February 08, 2023: TROUW, a daily national newspaper in The Netherlands, published an article about EonA and WACPAW’s efforts to decrease animal suffering in slaughterhouses in Ghana. The article also covers the sad fact that local Ghanaians in the meat industry cannot invest in better animal welfare due to unfair competition with cheap European meat being imported into the country.
- January 16, 2023: Vox publishes a strong article about animal exports with a focus on sea travel. L214, EFI and EonA are included, covering our studies of calves from Ireland to the Continent. Europe is now considering a ban on the trade of these terrible livestock transports by sea.

- November 24, 2022: De Boerderij, a Dutch agricultural newspaper, published an article about the court’s decision that the Dutch authorities must enforce the law that poultry cannot be caught by the legs and held upside down. In the article there is a photo of one of the courses Eyes on Animals gave to chicken catchers are how to catch hens more humanely; upright.
- September 02, 2022: Noteworthy, a platform for in-depth journalism, publishes an article about our investigations on Irish calves being exported to The Netherlands and Spain. Lesley Moffat is being interviewed.
- August 12, 2022: Omroep Brabant online news site publishes an article about our inspections of pigs suffering from heat stress and having to wait on board stationary trucks for a couple of hours near Vion Boxtel slaughterhouse before being able to be unloaded.
- August 11, 2022: Zembla publishes an article about the ongoing problems at the largest slaughterhouse in the Netherlands; Vion in Boxtel. Again Eyes on Animals documented and filmed pigs suffering from extreme heatstress in stationary trucks.
- August 02, 2022: Foodlog, an online food news-site that is very well read by the food and agriculture sector, joined us one evening when Eyes on Animals trained chicken-catchers on the upright method of catching poultry, and later when we helped catch and supervise the upright catching of spent laying hens.

- December, 2021: Pig Business magazine publishes a large article on how smart cameras in slaughterhouses can improve animal welfare.
- November 29, 2021: Nederlands Dagblad publishes an article stating how one of the farmers involved in the Eyes on Animals project ‘Kalf bij de Koe’ is putting this into practice.
- October 21, 2021: Plant Based News, a mission led, multi-award-winning resource creating awareness about ethical consumerism, sustainability and the plant-based lifestyle, publishes an article about the calling of fourteen animal protection charities (including EonA) on lawmakers to stop illegal and ‘painful’ practices during the slaughter process on UK chicken farms.
- October 21, 2021: The Animal Reader reports on stories from the often ignored animal perspective. Now it publishes an article about the letter of fourteen animal protection groups to the UK government to confirm that catching chickens by their legs is illegal under the Welfare of Animals (Transport) (England), and to enforce the law that forbids the handling method to end the painful practice. (EonA is mentioned at the end briefly)
- October 21, 2021: Food Magazine, a UK based magazine about food, publishes an article about the welfare of hens during catching and the Eyes on Animals upright method.
- July 13, 2021: The Times, a very well-read UK daily newspaper, publishes an article about how CTV cameras are not effective at protecting animals in slaughterhouses. At the end of the article they cover the new Aritifical Intelligence camera surveillance system developed by Deloitte with help from Eyes on Animals to make camera surveillance effective.
- July 10, 2021: De Stentor and De Gelderlander both publish a 3-page article about the horrible violent handling of cows and pigs at Gosschalk slaughterhouse. Eyes on Animals is also interviewed in it.
- June 17, 2021: The Dutch NOS news did a report on Eyes on Animals advocating, together with the Dutch Dierenbescherming, for legislation of the heat protocol.

They decided to stop transporting unweaned calves younger than 3 months on long-distance journeys because they agree with NGOs like EonA that these animals are dependent on milk and it is impossible to care for them adequately on-board.

- December 01, 2020: Bionext, a chain organization for organic agriculture and food, publishes on their website an article about the recent TV show “Radar” which covered the Eyes on Animals’ investigation into the welfare of kids from the goat dairy industry.
- November 5, 2020: Natur, a German magazine, publishes an article with some photos from Eyes on Animals in Turkey, about the animal transports from Germany to other countries.
- November 3, 2020: The Ferret, an independent media cooperative in Scotland, publishes a big article about the fact that P&O Ferries has continually breached its own animal welfare policy by aiding the export of Scottish animals abroad for fattening.
- September 2, 2020: The Independent, an Irish newspaper, published an article about the export of unweaned calves from Ireland to continental Europe. Due to pressure from Eyes on Animals (that exposed the violations taking place on this route when done by truck and ferry), the industry is looking for ways to make the trip take less long and now proposes transporting the calves by plane.
- September 05, 2020: The Times, the main daily newspaper in the UK, published an article about the complaint that Eyes on Animals has filed with the European Commission about Ireland’s department of agriculture, food and the marine. The complaint centres on Irish calves’ long export journeys without food, which is in breach of EU Regislation 1/2005. The Irish department said it will co-operate fully with the commission in relation to any enquiries made.
- August 21, 2020: Pluimveeweb, an online newsite for poultry producers, published an article about Eyes on Animals’ visit to a Dutch broiler producer that invested in a good system of using cool underground water to keep the temperature inside his barn cooler during heat waves and thus limit heat stress among his birds.
- August 21, 2020: PigBusiness, an online newsite for all people from the pig industry, published an article about the steps Dutch pig slaughterhouses put into place, after pressure and guidance from Eyes on Animals, to better protect the pigs from extreme heat stress when they arrive and have to wait in line to be unloaded.
- July 31, 2020: The Guardian prints an article about Eyes on Animals’ successful efforts in making stunning animals prior to cutting their throats more accepted in Turkey in order to reduce animal suffering during slaughter.
- July 12, 2020: The Sunday Times writes an article about P&O ferries policy against live export and Eyes on Animals revealing that in practice sometimes they are facilitating it: P&O ‘hoodwinked’ into breach of its own animal export policy.
- .July 7, 2020: The Times, the main daily newspaper in the UK, published an article about the unlawful trade of unweaned calves from Ireland to France, that Eyes on Animals, L214 and Ethical Farming for Ireland investigated and got confirmation from the EU about its unlawfulness.
- July 1, 2020: Poultry slaughterhouse Remkes has, per the recommendations of Eyes on Animals, painted the surface of their parking lot white to reduce the chance of heat stress for the birds waiting in the poultry trucks. - Mai 29, 2020: Animals Today published a blog about the decision taken by the Dutch Minister of Agriculture to ban the live animal export to countries outside of the EU if a 24-rest stop is required. Animals Today agrees that this decision was wise, but long overdue because organizations like Eyes on Animals and AWF|TSB had already sent warnings about this problem years ago. - Mai 26, 2020: The Animal Reader publishes an article about our investigations into the welfare of goat kids and publishes a video- interview with Eyes on Animals. Click HERE.
- Mai 2, 2020: The Leeuwarder Courant, the daily newspaper of the Friesland province in The Netherlands, published an article about the abuse of young calves Eyes on Animals and L214 uncovered while trailing calves from Ireland via France to the Netherlands. The farmer who imported the calves we trailed admits it is horrible and the Dutch Minister of Agriculture promises to take action.

- February 4, 2020: The online news site Pluimveeweb has published an article about catching chickens at Demeter poultry farm Boerveenshof. On the recommendations of Eyes on Animals, the chickens were caught upright (max two at a time) for the first time instead of upside down by one leg. This method eliminates a lot of stress and pain to the animals. Poultry service Smeding did the actual catching. Rolf Kanninga and the catching team were happily surprised by calmness in the barn and the fast pace of catching. With a slightly larger team, catching took the same amount of time as before. - January 31, 2020: Pluimveeweb, the online news site for the Dutch poultry industry, has published an article about poultry farm Boerveenshof. They will have their chickens caught upright for the first time, instead of upside down by one leg. EonA recommended this method to them in order to improve animal welfare. - April 18, 2018: Boerderij Vandaag, a farmers magazine, published an article about the first-ever poultry farm “Rondeel” (in The Netherlands) to make the switch to the more humane EonA Dutch catching method. The EonA Dutch catching method reduces stress and pain significantly as birds are caught upright – max two at a time – instead of the traditional method of grabbing them at their feet and holding them upside down. Eyes on Animals had been in negotiations with Rondeel about this for the past year, and last week Eyes on Animals inspectors, the Rondeel farmer and chicken catchers from Den Ouden Oirschot company (that were trained by EonA a few months before) finally applied it in practice. Many of the trucks were overcrowded and temperatures inside above 35 degrees, showing that the new Dutch Transport Protocol to protect animals during hot weather is not yet working in practice.

The letter was a request to the Minister to stop permitting the export of live cattle from Belgium to Turkey. Just a few weeks earlier Belgium started for the first time sending live animals by road to Turkey, despite warnings from EonA and TSB|AWF to the EU Commission and all Member States of the serious animal-welfare problems along this route and inability to conduct the export in compliance with the EU regulations, since turkey does not have any proper infrastructure for resting or humanely euthanizing animals falling sick or injured on route. The reason for publishing was a documentation and a video made by Eyes on Animals TSB|AWF, in which the results of five years of inspection at the Turkish-Bulgarian border have been put together. - January 2016: Performans, a popular Turkish magazine for the cattle and beef industry in Turkey, publishes an extensive article about Eyes on Animals and TSB|AWF’s work at making the slaughter of animals in Turkey more humane. - December 2015: Lekker Vegetarisch, a popular Dutch magazine from the Dutch Vegetarian Association, prints an article about Eyes on Animals’ efforts to convince supermarkets to sell welfare-friendlier milk from dairy farms where the calves are not taking away at birth, but are left with their mothers in the herd for several months. (please note there is a mistake in the article, at Zonnehoeve farm the calves never go to a veal fattening farm after weaning, but remain in a herd with access to the outdoors in a terrific environment). - September 2015: InfoVet, a Turkish veterinary magazine, publishes an article about the €1000 prize we will hand out, together with the Carlos Artsen Foundation, to a slaughterhouse-employee in Turkey that is able to make the most significant improvement to animal-welfare inside their plant. - October 21, 2014: De Persdienst, a Dutch newspaper, publishes an article about the fact that Eyes on Animals have observed horses that have had their tail docked being accepted for sale on Dutch horse markets. - July 25, 2011: Agrarische Dagblad (daily Dutch agricultural newspaper) runs an interview with Henk-Jan Keus from the Dutch livestock transport company “Keus en Mollink”. He announces to stop directly with transports to Turkey following our criticism of one of his transports across the Turkish/Bulgarian border, with animals suffering on board. We trailed this truck and conditions were very poor; with two unfit animals on board, inadequate water and filthy bedding.
- July 23, 2011: Deutsch-Turkische Nachtrichten published an article about our investigation with the Animal Welfare Foundation and CIWF of European livestock trucks at the Bulgarian/Turkish border.
- July 22, 2011: TROUW (Dutch daily newspaper) published an article about our investigation with the Animal Welfare Foundation and CIWF of European livestock trucks at the Bulgarian/Turkish border. Many animals suffered because the trucks and loading conditions were unacceptable, and also due to being blocked on board the trucks for hours and even days waiting at the border.

- November 8, 2010: De Telegraaf (daily Dutch newspaper) wrote an article about our inspection of a horse and pony market in Hedel where violations to the European animal protection legislation took place. The loud music and party-atmosphere of the town-festival added a tremendous amount of stress to these noise-sensitive animals.
- November 1, 2010: TROUW (Daily Dutch newspaper) article about our welfare-workshop for livestock chauffeurs from the Dutch transport company Sleegers. Click also here to see a screenshot of the article in the newspaper with photos.
- August 2010: Agrarisch Dagblad (daily Dutch agricultural newspaper) article based on our press release about the 300 piglets that died from suffocation on board a truck during the heatwave in July and about our demand that transport of animals be forbidden during extreme temperatures.
- August 2010:Vee & Vlees (magazine for the Dutch livestock industry) published an article about Eyes on Animals’ inspection of the cattle market in Leeuwarden. On the same page they published an article about the importance of giving cattle enough headspace if loaded on double-deckers, as a reaction to our request that cattle traders and transporters pay better attention.
- March 2010: Manitoba Cooperator (Canadian newspaper) article in reaction to our taskforce letter urging Canadian slaughterhouses and supermarket chains to stop pig castration and follow suit what is happening in The Netherlands where boars are now left intact. Several weeks later, two “letters to the editor” were published in the same newspaper, as a reaction to this article. Both authors were Dutchmen from the pig industry.
2009
- November 2009: Agrarisch Dagblad article based on our letter to the Dutch authorities and the AGD concerning a Dutch livestock transport company that attempted to smuggle sheep out of the UK in a closed-truck and declaring only carcass meat on board (thank you to Kent Against Live Export for drawing our attention to this Dutch exporter and helping with this complaint). - April 2010: Eyes on Animals received a reply from the Dutch authorities regarding our complaint, stating that they will send out two letters of warning to the transport company and if caught a third time, he will be fined €5000.
