Animal slaughter and Islamic rules - Asalet Sancakdaroglu - Eyes on Animals - featured

Asalet Sancakdaroglu, our inspector and trainer in Turkey, has spent many years working inside slaughterhouses in Turkey, trying to decrease animal suffering. Further introducing and teaching stunning to slaughterhouse workers in Turkey

October 9, 2021

This morning we were at a slaughterhouse near Bolu. Eyes on Animals has been visiting this plant for several years now. But now we were equipped with stunners. We taught the workers how to use a stunner and explained how, when used correctly, it renders the animal at least insensitive to pain right before the cut. First they practiced on the heads of already butchered … [Read more...] about Further introducing and teaching stunning to slaughterhouse workers in Turkey

Although slaughterhouses took measures to reduce heat stress, including mobile fans in waiting areas and slaughtering earlier in the day, these were not sufficient to protect the birds from the extreme heat. At all the slaughterhouses we inspected, Eyes on Animals witnessed … [Read more...] about Heat-protocol fails to protect poultry

October 23, 2018

UDS campus Tamale

Today we gave a training in humane handling to pig butchers in the region of Tamale. It was held at the UDS campus abattoir. Last year we had given a training here too, to agricultural students and the slaughter-men of this abattoir. Since we donated a captive bolt pistol and cartridges to them last year, all animals are being stunned before slaughter at UDS, instead of … [Read more...] about Animal-welfare workshop for pig butchers at UDS campus slaughterhouse, Tamale, Ghana
