Visit to VION slaughterhouse in Boxtel during Code Red

Today we visited the VION slaughterhouse in Boxtel to see how the slaughterhouse and transport companies were responding to the extreme heat. VION had implemented several measures to reduce heat stress. Around 9,500 pigs were slaughtered today instead of the usual 16,000, allowing all pigs to arrive before 12:00. German TV reports on the less painful alternative to CO2 gas that EonA designed for a pig slaughterhouse

German TV (NDR) again broadcasted a documentary about the pain and suffering caused by CO₂ gas, which is used in most large pig slaughterhouses in the West. 80% of pigs in Germany are forced to inhale high concentrations of CO2 which causes panic, chemical burning of the mucous membranes and suffocation. 🐄 Koe met kalf aan de voet produceert niet automatisch minder melk.

Onderzoek laat zien dat de totale melkproductie vergelijkbaar kan zijn. Het verschil zit vooral in de melk die het kalf zelf opneemt. 👇
