Today we invited BSI Schwarzenbek (German Training Institute for Animal Welfare during Transport and Slaughter) to join us on a follow-up inspection of a pig slaughterhouse that we have improved. Over the last 3 years major changes were made as part of our efforts to make automatic electric stunning finally a viable alternative to CO2 stunning that we are trying to phase out. CO2 can cause serious respiratory panic and painful chemical stimulation on the mucous membranes. We wanted BSI to see these brand new design-and handling practices in automatic electric stunning that we got in place because BSI can spread these better practices in their schooling and consulting. Good luck BSI and thanks for coming.
