Poultry slaughterhouse Jan van Ee (NL) not interested in visit from Eyes on Animals

October 24, 2017

A few months earlier Eyes on Animals brought an unannounced visit to poultry slaughterhouse Jan van Ee in Stroe (NL) . Jan van Ee slaughters broilers and uses the CO2 gas stunning system of Anglia Autoflow (AA). We had a quick talk with the director. We talked about the transport containers of AA that are quite big – which can cause welfare problems when they are loaded … [Read more...] about Poultry slaughterhouse Jan van Ee (NL) not interested in visit from Eyes on Animals

Ayguler slaughterhouse has a Gimdes Halal certificate despite horrible animal suffering!

December 7, 2016

Hoisting alive

The conditions inside Ayguler slaughterhouse in Kazan are some of the worst that we have ever seen in Turkey. Not only is the equipment and design of the plant causing all sorts of cattle to slip, fall, panic and get injured, but the handling of the animals is brutal. They are repeatedly electric prodded, hoisted fully off the floor, left hanging for minutes by one leg, … [Read more...] about Ayguler slaughterhouse has a Gimdes Halal certificate despite horrible animal suffering!

Europe plans to export more than 5000 cattle to Turkey during extreme heat again!

June 1, 2016

Exhausted cow

Since 2010 we have been documenting the extreme suffering and death of farm animals being exported by truck from all over Europe to Turkey. This route is a long and complicated one regardless of what time of the year it takes place. But the summertime is the worst, because the temperatures at the EU/Turkey border reach 40 degrees and there is no infrastructure … [Read more...] about Europe plans to export more than 5000 cattle to Turkey during extreme heat again!

Danish-platted livestock- truck with 420 pigs on board tipped over

January 21, 2016

Accident with danish-platted livestock- truck

On January 21st 2015 a Danish-platted livestock- truck with 420 pigs on board tipped over on the highway in northern Germany. The truck was one of these "newer" models: completely closed sides with automatic ventilation. There were no proper access doors on the side or large openings. When the truck tipped over, the automatic ventilation system naturally stopped and inside … [Read more...] about Danish-platted livestock- truck with 420 pigs on board tipped over

Still no calf-friendly milk in supermarkets

October 30, 2015

New born calf at dairy farm

In order to obtain milk from a cow, a calf needs to be born. On dairy farms these calves are removed from their mother immediately after birth and put in a small wooden pen or in an igloo. Thus the milk we buy in supermarkets is produced by cows who have never been given an opportunity to take care of their calf. The calves are fed with powdered milk and drink out of a … [Read more...] about Still no calf-friendly milk in supermarkets

Poorly designed livestock trucks still being approved by Member States across Europe

October 1, 2015

Stucked bull under bad divider

Eyes on Animals continues to witness major design- flaws in livestock trucks. We are disappointed that Member State authorities continue to hand permits out to such trucks because the design-flaws can cause serious injury and stress to the animals on board. The most common problem is that the partitions are not able to extend down to the ground. As a result we see animals, … [Read more...] about Poorly designed livestock trucks still being approved by Member States across Europe

Slaughterhouse RKKB not interested in visit from EonA

Sheep legs

Eyes on Animals just received the original paperwork of a consignment of sheep that a Dutch transport company tried to export from the UK to the mainland in July 2014. During this month, live exports of sheep from the UK to mainland Europe increased dramatically over a 4 week period due to the exporters supplying the ever increasing demand for live animals for the Muslim … [Read more...] about Shame on Dutch transport company IntoEurope BV (aka Diepeveen)

🐄 Koe met kalf aan de voet produceert niet automatisch minder melk.

Onderzoek laat zien dat de totale melkproductie vergelijkbaar kan zijn. Het verschil zit vooral in de melk die het kalf zelf opneemt. 👇
