Dutch goats stuck for 2.5 days at the EU/Turkey border

February 5, 2015

Blocked Van Dommelen transporter

Eyes on Animals did its best to raise the alarm about 250 Dutch, mostly pregnant, goats which were stuck on board two livestock trucks at the EU border between Bulgaria and Turkey. Due to unclear paper work issues and certain animals not fulfilling Turkish import requirements regarding maximum age, Van Dommelen transports were withheld by the Turkish authorities. Finally, … [Read more...] about Dutch goats stuck for 2.5 days at the EU/Turkey border

After 2.5 days stuck at Turkish border, Van Dommelen trucks with goats continue to Gölbesi, Turkey

February 4, 2015

Van Dommelen

After alerting the Dutch and Turkish authorities, and likely some negotiation and communication between both countries, it seems that the paper work mistakes have been solved and tonight at 18:00 the van Dommelen trucks with pregnant Dutch goats on board are allowed to leave Kapikule border, Turkey to head another 10 hours to their final destination- a farm in Gölbesi, … [Read more...] about After 2.5 days stuck at Turkish border, Van Dommelen trucks with goats continue to Gölbesi, Turkey

AGRARCOOP (Hungary) doesn’t give us permission to do a follow-up check

June 4, 2014

calf in box

On May 20 2014 an Eyes on Animals/AWF team was in Hungary and tried to make a follow-up check on AGRAGCOOP, a large farm/export centre that in 2012 still housed young calves in individual wooden crates, which were banned by the EU back in 2006! In 2012 during our first unannounced visit we were told by the owner that they will stop housing calves like this by 2013 but … [Read more...] about AGRARCOOP (Hungary) doesn’t give us permission to do a follow-up check

Dec 2013: Shame on Aygüler slaughterhouse in Turkey

January 10, 2014

hoisting_bulls_alive

All 10 Turkish slaughterhouses that we have visited so far have had serious and similar welfare problems. However, in many of the cases it is due to lack of information on how to do better as well as lack of awareness and lack of pressure to change. That is why we are trying to get their cooperation in assisting them to make concrete improvements. With some plants things … [Read more...] about Dec 2013: Shame on Aygüler slaughterhouse in Turkey

August 2013: No access to put injured chickens out of their misery

October 6, 2013

According to the EU legislation, animals must be accessible during transport and animals that become unwell must be separated and given first-aid. Sadly, poultry throughout Europe are still not given the benefit of this protection; to date these legislative requirements are still being ignored by the poultry industry and law-enforcers. … [Read more...] about August 2013: No access to put injured chickens out of their misery

Dec 2012 Shame on Animex transport company and sia Genetic LV

December 20, 2012

During Ramadam this year (late August), most EU organizers and transporters knew not to load animals for Turkey as Turkey was not allowing EU animals in during this time. But we saw Animex on the road in Hungary, riding towards the Turkish border with live cattle on board! Despite warning the drivers and the boss that the border was not open for another 4 days, they … [Read more...] about Dec 2012 Shame on Animex transport company and sia Genetic LV

June 2013 Slaugtherhouse Amsterdam refuses visit in the context of unstunned ritual slaughter

December 20, 2012

2013-06

In June, teams of Eyes on Animals and AWF visited a number of Turkish slaughterhouses, where animals are slaughtered ritually and unstunned. At most of these slaughterhouses we were received very politely. We concluded that there are several aspects that need to be improved to make the animals suffer less. Managers and veterinarians of these slaughterhouses have promised … [Read more...] about June 2013 Slaugtherhouse Amsterdam refuses visit in the context of unstunned ritual slaughter

The EU loading density has a limit of 235kg/m2 but on board was 247kg/m2. May 2012 Chicken transport containers not in compliance with EU law

May 9, 2012

chicken_with_head_crushed

The EU law protecting animals does not discriminate against smaller animals or animals of lower value, all vertebrate animals are to be treated equally. And yet, the transport of broiler chickens and spent hens is shocking: 1-2% arrive dead at the slaughterhouse and up to 50% in a flock have broken bones and yet are still loaded. The crates and drawers used to … [Read more...] about May 2012 Chicken transport containers not in compliance with EU law

🐄 Koe met kalf aan de voet produceert niet automatisch minder melk.

Onderzoek laat zien dat de totale melkproductie vergelijkbaar kan zijn. Het verschil zit vooral in de melk die het kalf zelf opneemt. 👇
