June 2012 Bulgarian transport company ‘Maria Livestock Express’ causes serious suffering

July 18, 2012

During our latest inspection visit to the Turkish/Bulgarian border in June 2012 Eyes on Animals, together with the Animal Welfare Foundation, checked two sheep transports of Bulgarian transport company ‘Maria Livestock Express. This is what we encountered:

-Overloading

– No access to water due to wrong nipple drinkers

-Dead animals aboard

– Injured animals

– Sheep stuck between the floor and the sides of the vehicle

– Rough handling of animals by chauffeurs

– Use of cattle-trucks that are not allowed anymore in most EU countries

We have filed a complaint to Bulgarian authorities, the EU and the transport company in question.

This company gets a highly unsatisfactory grade from us!
