This week our team was in Turkey to meet with as many Religious authorities, professors and journalists as possible to inform them of the current situation inside cattle and sheep slaughterhouses, and the need for improvements to be put into place to reduce animal-suffering. Inspection of EU livestock trucks heading to Turkey

During the week from July 21 to 29 Eyes on Animals and the Animal Welfare Foundation worked at the EU/Turkey border to check on livestock trucks. The situation at this border remains as problematic as 5 years ago; serious infringements and animal suffering were again documented. On-going project: Reducing animal-suffering in Turkish slaughterhouses

In 2010, the border between Europe and Turkey opened for the export of livestock. Suddenly, we saw dozens of livestock trucks from all over the EU crossing into Turkey on a daily basis. First visit of Edemen slaughterhouse in Bursa, Turkey

Animal welfare improvements at Baskent slaughterhouse in Sincan, Ankara

Today our AWF/EonA team checks on two trucks of the company Hefter with pregnant heifers from Germany on board that cross the Turkish border at Kapikule. At the feeding station near the border, the animals are watered and fed with hay, which has been carried along from Germany, but they are not unloaded.
