EonA/AWF give lecture at Veterinarian Faculty, Ankara University, TR

October 23, 2014

23.10.2014_TR_Ankara_Lecture_Vet_Faculty(37)Today the EonA/AWF team focussing on improving welfare during slaughter in Turkey gave a lecture at the Ankara University Veterinarian Faculty. The Dean invited us to come after seeing us give a talk at a Welfare Seminar put on by the Turkish Ministry of Agricultre and Dutch Embassy in Ankara last spring. Roughly 40 veterinarian students and professors were in the audience. We showed them photos and video of our work, ideas for how improvements could be put in place, and what important role they, as veterinarians, must play to help reduce suffering during slaughter. After our talk there were many questions and a good discussion. We made it clear that it is vital that our generation of veterinarians, ethologists and NGO’s change the bad habits of the past.

Dear friends,

It’s not every day that an animal-welfare organization takes on the challenge of redesigning a large pig slaughterhouse and their animal handling techniques, but that’s exactly what we did in 2020.
