Despite inspectors from Eyes on Animals, TSB|AWF, Animals Angels and Compassion in World Farming repeatedly showing the EU Commission and Member State (MS) authorities of the horrendous way animals were suffering and dying during transport in the summer (due to the heat and humidity), trade in live animals has continued on and on, largely unchanged. Until this year, … [Read more...] about Finally some Member States take action to reduce level of animal suffering during transport in hot summer months

The pressure is off at the Easter cattle market in Schagen!
At the annual Easter cattle market in Schagen last year, the double-muscled cattle and calves were cleaned using a high-pressure washer. Animal welfare improvements at Tomassen duck slaughterhouse

Before stunning ducks are shackled alive manually. On our recommendation Tomassen closed a gap underneath the shackle-line where the ducks sometimes got stuck with their beaks. The … [Read more...] about Animal welfare improvements at Tomassen duck slaughterhouse

Total ban on exhibiting horses with docked tails at Dutch fairs
Our lobby has been successful; there is finally a TOTAL ban on exhibiting horses with docked tails. This was just announced by the Dutch Minister of Agriculture, Mrs. Schouten. Sinds it became illegal to show horses with docked tails in 2001, many traditional draft horse breeders used a loophole in the law and had the tails amputated by corrupt veterinarians. These issued … [Read more...] about Total ban on exhibiting horses with docked tails at Dutch fairs
