Heat stress inspection at pig slaughterhouse Van Rooi in Helmond

August 10, 2022

This afternoon, we visited slaughterhouse Van Rooi in Helmond. Upon arrival we saw a truck parked in full sun on Van Rooi’s property loaded with pigs. Since this truck remained still and did not seem to be preparing to unload, we called Van Rooi. Van Rooi informed us that trucks are not allowed to park there. The driver was spoken to immediately and soon after, he was able … [Read more...] about Heat stress inspection at pig slaughterhouse Van Rooi in Helmond

Pigs suffering from heatstress on board stationary trucks parked at Vion slaughterhouse in Boxtel (NL)

August 10, 2022

Today Eyes on Animals visited Vion slaughterhouse in Boxtel. On July 18 we documented long waiting lines and pigs suffering severely from heat stress. We were hoping today the situation would have improved, but unfortunately it had not. Again, we documented pigs waiting on board  stationary trucks, with an average time of  70 minutes, and … [Read more...] about Pigs suffering from heatstress on board stationary trucks parked at Vion slaughterhouse in Boxtel (NL)

Several animal welfare improvements at slaughterhouse for goat-kids

August 8, 2022

In March of this year we paid a visit to a slaughterhouse where among other animals goat-kids of approx. 7-12days old are slaughtered. Read a report about this visit here >> We find it distressing and unacceptable that some milk goat farmers send their “surplus” goat-kids to a slaughterhouse this young. Although the handling of the goat kids was calm (they … [Read more...] about Several animal welfare improvements at slaughterhouse for goat-kids

Unannounced heatstress inspections at pig slaughterhouse Westfort in IJsselstein

July 20, 2022

Today we visited pig slaughterhouse Westfort in IJsselstein. Thankfully, it was not as warm (approx. 25°C) as the previous day, as it was overcast and had just rained. We arrived late afternoon so only one truck was waiting. The truck stood under netting which provided shade along both the top and one side of the truck, with fans and misting systems using cool water. These … [Read more...] about Unannounced heatstress inspections at pig slaughterhouse Westfort in IJsselstein

Heatstress-inspections at pig slaughterhouse VION in Apeldoorn (NL)

July 19, 2022

Today we made an unannounced visit to a pig slaughterhouse owned by VION in Apeldoorn in connection with the extreme hot weather. VION immediately made time to show us around. We checked the condition of the pigs (inside the trucks, under the canopy and whilst unloading) and measured the temperatures. The canopy was constructed in 2021, following our advice. Prior to that … [Read more...] about Heatstress-inspections at pig slaughterhouse VION in Apeldoorn (NL)

Better practices in a slaughterhouse in Turkey !

June 21, 2022

Last month, thanks to Aziz from Orkinos and HAYTAP, we were invited to train the workers of a cattle slaughterhouse near Ordu on how to use a stunner and then we leased one out to them for free. Now, 4 weeks later during a follow-up visit they continue to stun the cattle. What a huge real difference this makes for the animals. Eyes on Animals is so grateful to Aziz and all … [Read more...] about Better practices in a slaughterhouse in Turkey !

Follow-up check of cattle slaughterhouse near Ordu, Turkey

June 21, 2022

Last month cattle at this plant in northern central Turkey were still being restrained, hoisted and having their throat's cut while fully conscious, as is common practice in all slaughterhouses in Turkey. Last month (late May 2022), thanks to Aziz from Orkinos and HAYTAP, we were invited to train their workers on how to use a stunner and leased one out to them for free. … [Read more...] about Follow-up check of cattle slaughterhouse near Ordu, Turkey

Disappointing meetings with Ministry of Agriculture, Halal Acreditation Agency and Halal Standards inTurkey

April 4, 2022

Today was a very disappointing day in Turkey and showed us again how humans take advantage of every opportunity to make money, at the cost of animal welfare. Asalet went to 3 organizations in Ankara (the Ministry of Agriculture, the Halal Accreditation Agency and TSE-Halal standards) to show them the way animals are tortured in Turkish slaughterhouses, where they are … [Read more...] about Disappointing meetings with Ministry of Agriculture, Halal Acreditation Agency and Halal Standards inTurkey

Inspection and stunning at a slaughterhouse near Balikesir, Turkey

April 2, 2022

Today brought us hope again. We dropped by a slaughterplant near Balikesir. We explained our work to the director and showed him how a captive bolt stunner works. The director learned how to use it and is convinced now that it is better to render the animals unconscious first before cutting them then cutting their throats while still conscious. He used it well on all … [Read more...] about Inspection and stunning at a slaughterhouse near Balikesir, Turkey

Meeting with Irish calf importers Van Drie and Pali

March 24, 2022

Today Eyes on Animals met with Van Drie and Pali regarding the calves they import from Ireland. During the transportation of unweaned calves, from Ireland to the Netherlands, legislation concerning feeding is repeatedly violated. Unweaned calves, 2-3 weeks old are being given milk only once during a 50 hour journey. Legally, these calves are supposed to be given milk after … [Read more...] about Meeting with Irish calf importers Van Drie and Pali

Las primeras víctimas siempre son los animales.

Se debería de aprobar un pacto de estado contra el fuego, por la prevención y de compromisos contra el cambio climático.
