Today, we made an unannounced visit to Ameco cattle slaughterhouse because of the extreme heat. When we arrived, we saw a truck with cows standing next to the car wash, mainly in the sun. This afternoon, we visited slaughterhouse Van Rooi in Helmond. Upon arrival we saw a truck parked in full sun on Van Rooi’s property loaded with pigs. Better practices in a slaughterhouse in Turkey !
Last month, thanks to Aziz from Orkinos and HAYTAP, we were invited to train the workers of a cattle slaughterhouse near Ordu on how to use a stunner and then we leased one out to them for free. Now, 4 weeks later during a follow-up visit they continue to stun the cattle. What a huge real difference this makes for the animals. Last month cattle at this plant in northern central Turkey were still being restrained, hoisted and having their throat's cut while fully conscious, as is common practice in all slaughterhouses in Turkey.
