Visit of calf slaughterhouse Fuite Veal

May 10, 2017

Calf slaughterhouse in Tubbergen

Today we visited Vuite Feal, a calf slaughterhouse in Tubbergen (NL). Fuite Veal is a relatively new slaughterhouse. We were allowed to observe the entire slaughterhouse: The unloading of trucks, the lairage, the raceway and the stunning area. The handling of the calves went smoothly and without too much distress, but we did have some recommendations to improve the … [Read more...] about Visit of calf slaughterhouse Fuite Veal

Re-visit slaughterhouse Heinen

May 5, 2017

Raceway with dead-end

Today we again visited the slaughterhouse Heinen, which in 2016 took our advice and improved their restraint box. The restraint box was previously closed in the front but has now been "opened" so the pigs find it less scary to walk to the restrainer. Moreover, if pigs are less stressed, they move more easily, which also causes less stress for employees. This again has a … [Read more...] about Re-visit slaughterhouse Heinen

Unannounced visits to slaughterhouses East Netherlands

May 1, 2017

Visit of a slaughterhouse

On May 1, 2017, we visited three slaughterhouses unannounced: poultry slaughterhouse ESBRO in Wehl, Heinz's pork and beef slaughterhouse in Zelhem and calf slaughterhouse Fuite Veal in Tubbergen. At poultry slaughterhouse ESBRO, there was initially no time and interest in our visit. After talking briefly with the company leader and indicating what our goal was (giving … [Read more...] about Unannounced visits to slaughterhouses East Netherlands

Ayguler slaughterhouse has a Gimdes Halal certificate despite horrible animal suffering!

December 7, 2016

Hoisting alive

The conditions inside Ayguler slaughterhouse in Kazan are some of the worst that we have ever seen in Turkey. Not only is the equipment and design of the plant causing all sorts of cattle to slip, fall, panic and get injured, but the handling of the animals is brutal. They are repeatedly electric prodded, hoisted fully off the floor, left hanging for minutes by one leg, … [Read more...] about Ayguler slaughterhouse has a Gimdes Halal certificate despite horrible animal suffering!

Helmaks Slaughter Equipment replaced production of trip-floor box with more humane upright boxes

October 14, 2016

Trip floor box

Our strategy to change the world to be more humane to animals is not an aggressive one, but rather one that focuses on education and building bridges of communication. We strongly believe that in certain areas of the world, and in certain society groups, it is often the lack of knowledge about animal-behaviour and intelligence and the lack of awareness about more humane … [Read more...] about Helmaks Slaughter Equipment replaced production of trip-floor box with more humane upright boxes

Slaughterhouse RKKB not interested in visit from EonA

July 1, 2015

Slaughterhouse RKKB

In May 2015 Eyes on Animals brought an unannounced visit to the slaughterhouse RKKB in Didam (NL). RKKB slaughters cattle and sheep, with and without stunning. We had a quick talk with the director. It was not possible to visit the slaughter-area at that moment to observe the handling and slaughtering of the animals. The director promised to discuss internally if Eyes on … [Read more...] about Slaughterhouse RKKB not interested in visit from EonA

On-going project: Reducing animal-suffering in Turkish slaughterhouses

May 21, 2015

In 2010, the border between Europe and Turkey opened for the export of livestock. Suddenly, we saw dozens of livestock trucks from all over the EU crossing into Turkey on a daily basis. Many had dairy cattle on board, going for further production. But many had European sheep and young bulls on board, destined for slaughterhouses in Turkey. Eyes on Animals together with our … [Read more...] about On-going project: Reducing animal-suffering in Turkish slaughterhouses

Follow up Visit at Ivo Hendriksen slaughterhouse in Lichtenvoorde

May 13, 2015

Hendriksen has installed a rolling-door

Today we had a follow-up visit at the Ivo Hendriksen slaughterhouse in Lichtenvoorde. Ivo Lichtenvoorde mainly slaughters young pigs. During our last visit we witnessed pigs becoming frightened due to loud noises made by the metal gates. Through installing some rubber elements throughout the fencing the noise levels in the slaughterhouse have been brought down resulting in … [Read more...] about Follow up Visit at Ivo Hendriksen slaughterhouse in Lichtenvoorde
