Inspection of a livestock shop in Turkey

June 13, 2013

13.06.2013_TR_Bursa_mrkt__27

Today the EonA/AWF team visited a livestock “shop” in Bursa, Turkey. Like many cities and villages in Turkey, there is often a shopping area where people can go to buy a couple of sheep, goats or cattle either for immediate slaughter or further production. It usually consists of a road with many stalls in a row. In the front is the owner of the animals, awaiting … [Read more...] about Inspection of a livestock shop in Turkey

Inspection of a livestock market in Turkey

June 12, 2013

12.06.2013_TR_Tuzla_market_near_Istanbul__14

This morning the EonA/AWF team visited the livestock market in Tuzla. We were told that animals would be sold today, but actually it was very quiet and most pens were empty. The market director approached us and offered to organize a tour for us. Animals that are not sold are kept in the pens here. Some of the sheep pens were very good - with lots of bedding, clean water, … [Read more...] about Inspection of a livestock market in Turkey

April 18, 2013

Asinovgrad_market_skinny_horse

Today the team from EonA/AWF checked on the livestock market in Asenovgrad, Bulgaria. Equines, bovines, ovine, caprines and birds are brought to the market to be sold. The transport of the animals is mainly done in cars, vans and some small lorries that are absolutely not suitable for transporting animals correctly. Our team … [Read more...] about Inspection of Asenovgrad livestock market, Bulgaria

Inspection of Petrič livestock market, Bulgaria

April 17, 2013

17.04.2013_P_market

Our team has discovered an animal market at Petrič in Bulgaria. It appears to be an illegal market since it takes place on the road in the suburbs of the town of Petrič. The cars transporting sheep, lambs and pigs park at the side of the road. The animals are kept inside the cars or in the small trailers attached to the cars. The sheep are … [Read more...] about Inspection of Petrič livestock market, Bulgaria

February 18, 2013

18.02.2013_veemarkt_Bunnik

A cattle-market for culled cows in Bunnik (near Utrecht in The Netherlands) was visited unannounced today by two Eyes on Animals inspectors and a new volunteer. This market takes place on a weekly basis at a collecting station for farm animals. Both meat and dairy cows of different breeds are traded here. A few dozen cows were present during our visit. The … [Read more...] about Visit to cattle-market Bunnik (NL)

Unannounced Inspection of Leeuwarden cattle market

January 24, 2013

CIMG0963

Eyes on Animals inspectors paid an unannounced visit to the cull-cow market in Leeuwarden early this morning. Like at the announced visit in June last year, the market made a positive impression. To our positive surprise, the number of pens in which the animals are housed loosely was expanded. The market is working towards accommodating more cows like … [Read more...] about Unannounced Inspection of Leeuwarden cattle market

Inspection of Hedel horse market (NL)

November 5, 2012

05.11.2012_hedel_verkeerd_aangebonden_pony

Eyes on Animals was present last night at the yearly horse market in Hedel. Fortunately this year there were not any sick animals present. The market was well-organized; there was enough water and hay available and from the beginning of the market onward veterinarians were present. Abuses like we had seen two years ago were out of the question and there was also … [Read more...] about Inspection of Hedel horse market (NL)

Inspection of livestock market Ciney (Belgium)

August 24, 2012

24.08.2012_BE_Ciney_te_kort_aangebonden2

The livestock market in Ciney in Belgium, one of the largest livestock markets in Europe, was visited by Eyes on Animals inspectors. Around 2400 cattle and calves and a small number of horses, ponies and donkeys were present this day. The market made a much better impression than during an Eyes on Animals visit two years ago. Back then we … [Read more...] about Inspection of livestock market Ciney (Belgium)

Visit to calf market Leeuwarden

June 19, 2012

19.06.2012_kalvermarkt_11

After a visit to the sheep market and the cattle-market, Eyes on Animals inspectors now visited the calf market in Leeuwarden. The market itself again made a decent impression. There was enough straw and the calves had plenty of space. The calves couldn’t drink, but the time they spent at the market and during transport does probably not exceed the legal nine hour limit. … [Read more...] about Visit to calf market Leeuwarden

Visit to Leeuwarden cattle market, NL

June 14, 2012

14.06.2012_Leeuwarden_cows_with_water

Eyes on Animals inspectors made a visit to the cull-cow market in Leeuwarden. Like at previous visits, it made a positive impression. The vet hired by the cattle-market gave us an extended tour. He explained and clarified things and answered our questions. He seemed to genuinely care about the welfare of the animals. There were no ‘downers’ or seriously ill cows present. An … [Read more...] about Visit to Leeuwarden cattle market, NL

Las primeras víctimas siempre son los animales.

Se debería de aprobar un pacto de estado contra el fuego, por la prevención y de compromisos contra el cambio climático.
