Visit to Edemen slaughterhouse, Bursa, Turkey

November 2, 2022

This afternoon EonA visited a slaughterhouse in Bursa that we had been to before. Four years ago they were not interested in the stunner, fearful that stunning may not be Halal. But Asalet is helping break down this myth by showing how it works, how stunning decreases greatly animal suffering compared to slaughtering fully conscious animals and explaining what is in the … [Read more...] about Visit to Edemen slaughterhouse, Bursa, Turkey

Besuch im Schlachthof Et Ba zur Vorstellung des Betäubungsverfahrens, Türkei

November 2, 2022

A look at the changes that were made at duck slaughterhouse Tomassen Duck-To

November 1, 2022

Today we paid a visit to duck slaughterhouse Tomassen Duck-To in Ermelo (NL). Tomassen had made a few changes which they wanted to show us. On the lairage ceiling and along the walls, misting fans had been installed. Tomassen told us this makes the indoor waiting area considerably cooler during the summer months. The fans were installed after the NVWA (the Dutch food … [Read more...] about A look at the changes that were made at duck slaughterhouse Tomassen Duck-To

Slaughter of very young goat-kids to end in 2025

October 12, 2022

Partly because of our efforts the sector has drawn up a plan to put a stop to the transportation and slaughter of extremely young goat-kids. From 2025 dairy goat farmers will have to fatten all (100%) of their goat-kids up until a minimum of 2 weeks of age. In 2023 this needs to be at least 25% and in 2024 a minimum of 50%. Two weeks is indeed still too young and does not … [Read more...] about Slaughter of very young goat-kids to end in 2025

Online meeting with Temple Grandin at Gosschalk slaughterhouse in Epe (NL)

October 4, 2022

Today we had an online meeting with a team from Gosschalk, the developers of the ‘Argus VCA camera-system’ and Dr. Temple Grandin. We wanted Temple Grandin’s recommendations on the handling and design in Gosschalk, where both cattle and pigs are slaughtered, to see if stress and fear could be further reduced. Temple Grandin is a well-known ethologist and expert on how to … [Read more...] about Online meeting with Temple Grandin at Gosschalk slaughterhouse in Epe (NL)

Slaughterhouse near Ordu (TR) continues to use stunner to render cattle uncouscious

September 7, 2022

Hopeful news from Turkey: the Halal slaughterhouse near Ordu that we trained in May on how to use a stunner and convinced them to at least render cattle unconscious prior to hoisting and cutting their throats is still stunning the cattle. This has meant a huge decrease in the level of suffering.  We are regularly in Turkey to make people aware of the urgent need to … [Read more...] about Slaughterhouse near Ordu (TR) continues to use stunner to render cattle uncouscious

Visit to Van der Linden poultry slaughterhouse in Beringe (NL)

September 2, 2022

Today we paid an announced visit to Van der Linden poultry slaughterhouse. Van der Linden took time out of their busy schedule to show us the process from beginning to end, and to answer all our questions.  In the lairage, big fans with water-misters had been fitted on the ceiling. There were also fans on the floor. The water-misters help cool the air. However, in … [Read more...] about Visit to Van der Linden poultry slaughterhouse in Beringe (NL)

Training and implementing stunning at 2 cattle slaughterhouses in Ardahan, Turkey

August 24, 2022

On August 24th and 25th we introduced stunning at 2 more Turkish slaughterhouses, this time in Ardahan, Turkey (far north-east). Together with a local representative from the Turkish welfare NGO "HAYTAP" we met with the city mayor, slaughterhouse managers and state vet to discuss animal welfare. Meeting with VION pig slaughterhouse in Boxtel about recent problems during the heat wave

August 17, 2022

Today, we had a meeting with VION pig slaughterhouse in Boxtel. We requested the meeting because of the welfare problems that occurred last weeks during the hot weather. We would like to know Vion’s plans going forward and provide them with our own suggestions to avoid repeat suffering: Fewer pigs arriving at the slaughterhouse, or better still, no pigs arriving at the … [Read more...] about Meeting with VION pig slaughterhouse in Boxtel about recent problems during the heat wave
