We sent a captive bolt stunner to a slaughterhouse in the far east of Turkey, a location that was too complicated and expensive for us to get to quickly during our current inspections here. They were very interested in improving animal-welfare and learning about rendering animals unconscious prior to cutting them. Yesterday Asalet gave them a video training on how to use the stunner, maintain it and safely use it on animals to decrease suffering. After the online training, they stunned the sheep in their plant and sent us the videos. When you compare slaughtering sheep while fully conscious and sensitive to pain with slaughtering a sheep that is unconscious, one realizes how crucial this work is to decrease suffering.
