Visit slaughterhouse in Tamale, Ghana

October 6, 2017

Slaughterhouse in Tamale

On the 6th of October we visited a slaughterhouse in Tamale, Ghana together with the local NGO WACPAW. The handling was extremely brutal. Animals were hit, tails were broken on purpose and necks were stretched backwards so the animals were forced to fall down. Also the design of the slaughterhouse was a catastrophe. Animals were killed all together in one big room. … [Read more...] about Visit slaughterhouse in Tamale, Ghana

Eyes on Animals at Migros

Today we gave an animal-welfare workshop to the auditors of Migros supermarket chain in Turkey, responsible for the meat selection at their stores and buying large quantities of meat directly from the slaughterhouses in Turkey. Slaughterhouse improves restraint box

May 11, 2017

Raceway with dead-end

On advice from Eyes on Animals, the slaughterhouse Heinen in The Netherlands has made improvements to the design of restraint box. The end of the raceway used to look like a dead end as the front side of the restraint-box was closed, causing pigs to be scared and to balk. Now they have opened up the front of the restraint box so that the pigs have the idea that there is an … [Read more...] about Slaughterhouse improves restraint box

Re-visit slaughterhouse Heinen

May 5, 2017

Raceway with dead-end

Today we again visited the slaughterhouse Heinen, which in 2016 took our advice and improved their restraint box. The restraint box was previously closed in the front but has now been "opened" so the pigs find it less scary to walk to the restrainer. Moreover, if pigs are less stressed, they move more easily, which also causes less stress for employees. This again has a … [Read more...] about Re-visit slaughterhouse Heinen

Unannounced visits to slaughterhouses East Netherlands

May 2, 2017

On May 2, 2017 we visited five slaughterhouses: Gosschalk in Epe, Poultry slaughterhouses Remkes in Epe, Jan van 'Ee in Stroe, Van Bor in Nijkerkerveen and the duck slaughterhouse Tomassen Duck in Ermelo. It involved unannounced visits, which made us run the risk that there was no time for us, and the chance that we would not be welcome. We were willing to take this risk … [Read more...] about Unannounced visits to slaughterhouses East Netherlands

On May 1, 2017, we visited three slaughterhouses unannounced: poultry slaughterhouse ESBRO in Wehl, Heinz's pork and beef slaughterhouse in Zelhem and calf slaughterhouse Fuite Veal in Tubbergen. Polish horse slaughterhouse makes improvements

December 23, 2016

As many of you are aware, in 2014 we released investigative footage with our partners at TSB|AWF showing the horrible treatment of horses during auction sales, transport and slaughter in Canada, USA, Mexico and several South American countries (see the Tros Radar program HERE : http://radar.avrotros.nl/uitzendingen/gemist/24-03-2014/). As a consequence, many food … [Read more...] about Polish horse slaughterhouse makes improvements

Visit to new slaughterhouse Westfort

December 20, 2016

Lairage

On December 20, 2016, we visited the new pig slaughterhouse Westfort in IJsselstein. Several of our recommendations to reduce animal suffering have been actioned. For example: the lairage is very large so pigs brought to the slaughterhouse can be unloaded immediately and do not have to wait outside in the truck, which is especially good when the weather conditions are very … [Read more...] about Visit to new slaughterhouse Westfort

🐄 Koe met kalf aan de voet produceert niet automatisch minder melk.

Onderzoek laat zien dat de totale melkproductie vergelijkbaar kan zijn. Het verschil zit vooral in de melk die het kalf zelf opneemt. 👇
