March 21, 2021

The slaughterhouse in Istanbul where we taught its workers a few months ago how to use a stunner to at least render the animals unconscious before cutting their throats updated Asalet from Eyes on Animals again today via video call. They are still stunning the animals and are grateful for the stunner we leased out to them. Via open communication, education and training, we … [Read more...] about Positive News from Turkey

Inspection and efforts at Kumasi cattle slaughterhouse, Ghana

October 17, 2019

Wacpaw-watering-downers

80% of the cattle arriving at Kumasi cattle slaughterhouse are from Burkina Faso and have been on the road for days before they arrive. The roads are bumpy and one can only drive slowly. The cattle are crowded, the weather is extremely hot, there is no water and many have long horns. Most are sick before even being loaded – the fact that they are unfit is the reason … [Read more...] about Inspection and efforts at Kumasi cattle slaughterhouse, Ghana

First visit of Hayrabol slaughterhouse, Turkey

Today our team in Turkey visited Hayrabol slaughterhouse in Turkey. We wanted to get an impression of the conditions inside and see if there was interest from the managers and veterinarian in animal-welfare. The manager of the plant was absent. The veterinarians were present and very willing to discuss animal-welfare. They admitted that things could be improved on, but it … [Read more...] about First visit of Hayrabol slaughterhouse, Turkey

Less noise in restraining box Vitelco calf slaughterhouse

April 9, 2018

Stunning box at Vitelco slaughterhouse

Slaughterhouse Vitelco has adjusted their restraining box from pneumatics towards hydraulic. This resulted in a significant noise reduction. This is an important step for animal welfare because noise, especially sudden and hissing ones, can cause a lot of stress in cattle. It makes them balk and too scared to enter the box. Loud sporadic noise can  also make animals inside … [Read more...] about Less noise in restraining box Vitelco calf slaughterhouse

See those bags? Full of dead cattle. 55 days and still stranded. It's pretty obvious now there will only be one outcome for these animals. This industry is steeped in cruelty and suffering. Yet more evidence that we must have a worldwide ban #BanLiveExport
