OIE conference

Our poster about our on-going project to decrease animal-suffering during slaughter in Turkey is being presented at the International OIE conference taking place in Mexico. Veterinarians and officials from all over the world take part in this conference that is being held this week. Dr. Cecilia Pedernera, our colleague from TSB|AWF, is present to answer any questions … [Read more...] about EonA and TSB|AWF poster at OIE conference

Ayguler slaughterhouse has a Gimdes Halal certificate despite horrible animal suffering!

December 7, 2016

Hoisting alive

The conditions inside Ayguler slaughterhouse in Kazan are some of the worst that we have ever seen in Turkey. Not only is the equipment and design of the plant causing all sorts of cattle to slip, fall, panic and get injured, but the handling of the animals is brutal. They are repeatedly electric prodded, hoisted fully off the floor, left hanging for minutes by one leg, … [Read more...] about Ayguler slaughterhouse has a Gimdes Halal certificate despite horrible animal suffering!

Polish poultry transport company penalized!

November 17, 2016

Inspection of poultry transport

Today during our practical training course south of Gdansk for the ITD (Polish truck inspectors), highway police and official veterinarians we stopped a poultry truck from the Polish company Ubojnia Drobiu GOSZ. It was raining and cold outside, and yet many of the birds had not received any side-protection from the elements. They were all wet and shivering. Additionally, … [Read more...] about Polish poultry transport company penalized!

Chicken transport crates with the cruel flap-door now banned

November 1, 2016

Crushed wing

For a long time crates with small flap doors were used to transport hens to slaughter. During our inspections of chickens being caught and loaded at the farm for transport to slaughter, we observed that these flap doors caused a lot of horrible injuries. Wings, heads and feet were often crushed. Recently the Dutch authorities made the decision to forbid these crates … [Read more...] about Chicken transport crates with the cruel flap-door now banned

Corlu Municipal slaughterhouse in Turkey now equiped with a stunner

October 26, 2016

Stunner at Corlu Municipal slaughterhouse

The Turkish scientific and veterinarian community, as well as more and more Religious authorities, are understanding the advantages to animal-welfare and meat quality when animals are first correctly stunned during slaughter. With correct stunning, the animal is immediately rendered unconscious and insensitive to pain and thus, when the throat is cut open to drain the … [Read more...] about Corlu Municipal slaughterhouse in Turkey now equiped with a stunner

Several animal welfare improvements in the slaughterhouse of Thönes Natur

October 24, 2016

On our advice Thönes Natur has made several improvements to their slaughterhouse reducing the amount of suffering caused to the animals. Thönes Natur uses an electric waterbath to stun chickens and turkeys. Before the birds are stunned, they have to be hung upside down alive in shackles. Then they are brought - upside down - to the electric water bath to be stunned. This … [Read more...] about Several animal welfare improvements in the slaughterhouse of Thönes Natur

Wilki replaces old broken poultry-crates with better ones

October 14, 2016

A few years ago, Eyes on Animals observed how the Belgian transport and slaughter company “Wilki” regularly picked up “ spent” laying hens on farms in the Netherlands. We were very disappointed by the condition and quality of the crates they were using. Many of the crates were broken, and thus were at risk of collapsing (crushing the birds inside) under the weight of the … [Read more...] about Wilki replaces old broken poultry-crates with better ones

Helmaks Slaughter Equipment replaced production of trip-floor box with more humane upright boxes

October 14, 2016

Trip floor box

Our strategy to change the world to be more humane to animals is not an aggressive one, but rather one that focuses on education and building bridges of communication. We strongly believe that in certain areas of the world, and in certain society groups, it is often the lack of knowledge about animal-behaviour and intelligence and the lack of awareness about more humane … [Read more...] about Helmaks Slaughter Equipment replaced production of trip-floor box with more humane upright boxes

Our police training courses lead to fines of disrespectful livestock transport companies

September 27, 2016

Practical training Katowice

Our training courses that we developed and give to the road police in Poland are starting to pay off for the animals! During one of our recent practical training sessions in Katowice the police and us stopped a pig truck from a notoriously bad Polish transport company and caught them transporting pigs on the upper decks in very crowded conditions. The EU density levels … [Read more...] about Our police training courses lead to fines of disrespectful livestock transport companies

Weidemark purchased mobile fans and started plans for new shady parking area

September 1, 2016

Weidemark

In order to combat farm animals from suffering from the heat during transport in the summer, livestock transport companies and slaughterhouses must each do their part. The transport companies need to reduce the loading densities, avoid long journeys and avoid having animals on board during the peak temperatures of the day if they know they will have to sit and wait. But … [Read more...] about Weidemark purchased mobile fans and started plans for new shady parking area

Las primeras víctimas siempre son los animales.

Se debería de aprobar un pacto de estado contra el fuego, por la prevención y de compromisos contra el cambio climático.
