Today during our practical training course south of Gdansk for the ITD (Polish truck inspectors), highway police and official veterinarians we stopped a poultry truck from the Polish company Ubojnia Drobiu GOSZ. It was raining and cold outside, and yet many of the birds had not received any side-protection from the elements. They were all wet and shivering. Additionally, many of the bars and top-doors of the crates were broken, risking animals falling out or being crushed. Because of this non-compliance the authorities have penalized the transport company and also issued a demand for all broken crates to be replaced. Although it is not good news to see birds transported in such poor conditions, the fact that these training courses are leading to better enforcement on the road is good news.
