Inspection of Skaryszew horse market – Day 1, Poland

March 6, 2017

There are by far fewer horses than last year, we count about 250-300. There were fewer horses kept under the roof area of the market this year, but too many to keep a safe distance between them. Some of the horses standing next to each other try to bite and kick. Again, no one cares about feeding and watering the horses, so the basic needs of many of them are not provided … [Read more...] about Inspection of Skaryszew horse market – Day 1, Poland

Skaryszew horse market – Day 1, Poland

March 6, 2017

After the luxury of 1.5 hours of sleep our Eyes on Animals and TSB|AWF teams are back on the road again with the ITD (official Polish Road Transport Inspectors) officers to check on livestock-transports leaving the Skaryszew horse market. We also catch trailers in bad technical condition and problematic international transports that leave the market without proper … [Read more...] about Skaryszew horse market – Day 1, Poland

EonA’s better method of carrying hens still in place at Polish market

October 31, 2015

Man with hens in nets

In 2011 Eyes on Animals visited a weekly livestock market in Poland. We were shocked to see how poultry were placed into net bags (made for onions) and handed over like this to their new buyer. The hens got their heads, feet and wings all tangled in the net, and trampled each other. It caused fright, pain and panic among the birds. Knowing full well we could only reduce … [Read more...] about EonA’s better method of carrying hens still in place at Polish market

Visit of Jan Tijs export centre in Haarle (NL)

May 28, 2015

Jan Tijs export centre

Today our team stopped by Tijs BV Haarle pig collecting and export centre. The owner, Tijs Haarle, let us know right away that we were not welcome. He had everything "perfectly fine and no desire to talk to us." Eyes on Animals is very disappointed about this. After all, if everything is fine, then why are we not welcome? Tijs Haarle is the first export-centre in the … [Read more...] about Visit of Jan Tijs export centre in Haarle (NL)

Visit of Reimink livestock export centre in Dalmsholte (NL)

May 28, 2015

Reimink livestock export center

Today we went to visit Reimink’s livestock export centre in Dalmsholte. At the time of our visit, there were no animals. This is always a risk when you come to visit unannounced. We looked at the unloading and lairage areas and shared knowledge and experiences with the owner. The owner let us know that it’s not a problem if we come by later this year again, so we can see … [Read more...] about Visit of Reimink livestock export centre in Dalmsholte (NL)
