Eyes on Animals visited a deHoeve pig farm in The Netherlands. DeHoeve pig farms have extra requirements regarding animal welfare and environmental protection. Male pigs are not allowed to be castrated, and sows are kept in group housing during most of the gestation period and given straw. Eyes on Animals inspected a pig slaughterhouse in Gorinchem, the Netherlands. The director is very involved in projects to improve animal welfare. Inspection of the new cattle market in Purmerend, NL

Eyes on Animals visited the new cattle market in Purmerend. Present were approximately 65 culled "dairy" cows (culled means that they were selected, for various reasons, to leave the farm and go for slaughter), a young bull and a steer. Response to a concern about 3 donkeys in NL

Eyes on Animals received an anonymous concern about the housing conditions of several donkeys not far from Amsterdam. Together with the complaint were several photos showing a barren and small housing facility for 3 donkeys. Upon arriving we observed the donkeys and the approximate 10m2 of space each one had. Inspection of welfare conditions for cull-cows sold at Leeuwarden market in NL

Eyes on Animals inspectors made an unannounced visit to the famous cull-cow market in Leeuwarden where three years ago downer cattle were being regularly delivered and dragged onto trucks using chains. Meeting with a slaughterhouse director in NL that is trying to improve things

Today Eyes on Animals met with the director of the Westfort slaughterhouse in The Netherlands. He is taking effective measures to improve the quality of life of farmed pigs. The Milieukeur label is a labelling scheme for farmers to join that, among other things, do NOT castrate their male pigs and have reduced ammoniac levels in their barns. Rescue of a goose on highway A7

While driving on the A7, Eyes on Animals investigators spotted 2 geese in the highway divider. One was dead, and her mate was staying faithfully at her side. But when he started making attempts to walk across the highway, Eyes on Animals investigators decided action was needed to rescue him. The police and the Animal Ambulance was called to the scene.
