Installation of electric stunner at Halal sheep abattoir in Istanbul, Turkije

November 4, 2024

After the horrible disappointment of not being able to help the 47 Romanian cattle stuck at the EU/Turkey border (where they were left to wait for 2 weeks and then slaughtered while fully conscious at a slaughterhouse in Edirne that did not allow us in to at least stun the animals first), we have some better news. Today Asalet and Jack from Eyes on Animals set up an … [Read more...] about Installation of electric stunner at Halal sheep abattoir in Istanbul, Turkije

Introducing and teaching electric stunning at sheep slaughterhouses in Turkey

October 13, 2024

Hopeful news! We have successfully convinced another slaughterhouse in Turkey to adopt stunning- a sheep slaughterhouse is ready to electric stun the sheep to render them unconscious before restraining and slaughtering them. In Turkey it is common to hoist animals alive and hang them up by one leg fully off the floor, and then they have their throats cut while fully … [Read more...] about Introducing and teaching electric stunning at sheep slaughterhouses in Turkey

Some animals now stunned first during “Sacrifice Festival” in Turkey

June 14, 2024

During many religious festivals, millions of animals suffer. Whether it be turkeys and chickens shackled upside down and then inadequately stunned in an electric water bath for Christmas or sheep being forced down on the ground (horribly scary for prey animals) and then having their throat cut open while fully conscious during the Sacrifice Festival. We all have … [Read more...] about Some animals now stunned first during “Sacrifice Festival” in Turkey

Eyes on Animalse team with the owner of Nebyan Meat company and the vet

Today Eyes on Animalse met with the owner of Nebyan Meat company and the vet, Mr. Ali. Professor Dr. Duygu Dalgın (director of Acisiz Kesim ngo in Turkey) is also present. Nebyan Meat supports the idea of pre-stunning animals for halal as animals suffer much less when first rendered unconscious. They want to use captive bolt stunning to its full extent. Today we gave them … [Read more...] about Meat shop in Samsun (Turkey) equipped with stunner to use on lambs they slaughter

First visit to Taşköprü slaughterhouse, Turkey

February 15, 2024

EonA employee in front of the entrance to the slaughterhouse

This afternoon we visited Taşköprü slaughterhouse. It's a small abattoir that slaughters just two or three cattle a week. They have a good anti-slip unloading ramp- the animals do not have to climb up or down a steep ramp and no risk of slipping. The restraint box is illuminated from above with light, instead of being really dark as in many other plants. Cattle do not see … [Read more...] about First visit to Taşköprü slaughterhouse, Turkey

Dear friends,

It’s not every day that an animal-welfare organization takes on the challenge of redesigning a large pig slaughterhouse and their animal handling techniques, but that’s exactly what we did in 2020.

“In tegenstelling tot de meeste onderzoeken in de intensieve veehouderij die zich richten op het weghalen van stress en pijn, willen wij ons heel specifiek richten op het terugbrengen van geluk en plezier in de veehouderij.”
