NVWA to start enforcing rules on poultry trapped on their backs

März 24, 2025

Following enforcement requests by Animal Rights, the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) will finally take stronger action against a long-standing animal welfare issue: birds ending up on their backs in transport crates or containers. This often occurs when poultry is handled roughly during loading and tossed into crates or containers at high speed and … [Mehr...] about NVWA to start enforcing rules on poultry trapped on their backs

No more goat-kids slaughtered at just 7 days old

März 4, 2025

As of January 1, 2025, goat kids can no longer be slaughtered before they are at least two weeks old. Many of them are now fattened for 3 to 5 weeks and receive slightly better care. This change was largely driven by the efforts of Eyes on Animals, which brought attention to the transport of very young goat kids in the media and political arena. As a result, … [Mehr...] about No more goat-kids slaughtered at just 7 days old

EonA talks at European Parliament in Brussels

Februar 19, 2025

Today we gave a talk at the European Parliament. We were invited by MEPs Anja Hazekamp and Sebastien Everding. We presented the new film about how sheep and cattle are transported on very difficult and long journeys from all over Europe by truck and vessel to slaughterhouses in third countries far away, such as Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon and Morocco. This … [Mehr...] about EonA talks at European Parliament in Brussels

More and more interest in moving away from CO2-gas stunning

Januar 15, 2025

Hopeful news- yesterday we hosted managers from a large pork company in the UK to come and see the abattoir we worked with for the past 3 years to create an improved automatic electric-stunning design, whereby hundreds of pigs per hour are no longer forced into one single file anymore and stress has been drastically reduced. There is more and more interest now that … [Mehr...] about More and more interest in moving away from CO2-gas stunning

Good News from Ghana: Major Improvements at Cape Coast Slaughter Slab

Dezember 15, 2024

Over the past five years, Eyes on Animals and WACPAW have worked together to reduce animal suffering at the Cape Coast cattle slaughter slab in Ghana. Initially, cattle endured severe stress and suffering due to harsh handling practices, including being forcibly tripped, tightly tethered, and slaughtered without stunning. Thanks to ongoing training by WACPAW and EonA and … [Mehr...] about Good News from Ghana: Major Improvements at Cape Coast Slaughter Slab

Dear friends,

It’s not every day that an animal-welfare organization takes on the challenge of redesigning a large pig slaughterhouse and their animal handling techniques, but that’s exactly what we did in 2020.
