Yalova slaughterhouse in Turkey is causing great suffering!

February 22, 2019

Shame on slaughterhouse Yalova, the slaughterhouse where last week we filmed them hoisting a downer bull fully up to the ceiling by his horns (!) as seen in our youtube video: https://youtube.be/37KO-tCyY8w

We were there last week to examine what changes were needed to their restraint box, before returning today to install a pneumatic stunner above the restraint box which they said they wanted to use (and we bought for them thanks to financial help from Pezzaioli), in order to render the cattle unconscious before cutting their throats. We sent a whole team  from EonA and 3 mechanics from Cantek) to Yalova on 22.02.2019 to install it, but after the first cow was rendered unconscious and fell to the floor, one of the cattle traders believed she was dead and yelled out that the meat was no longer Halal, and this was enough for the director to fully change his mind, order us to dismantle it and ask us to leave.

There is a serious amount of animal suffering going on in Yalova, and our efforts to help them decrease it were not appreciated. It was a total waste of our time. We will now propose this stunner to a different slaughterhouse in Turkey where animals also need help but at least the director has a genuine interest in learning and making a difference, and a professional attitude.

I want to tell you about Akuba. A young sow we met last week in Ghana. We were there in the first two weeks of December, inspecting and improving slaughterhouses together with the local NGO WACPAW. Our goal: curb the intense suffering of animals that is going on there.
