Visit to pig assembly centre Van Rooi in Lieshout (NL)

June 3, 2025

Today we paid an unannounced visit to the pig assembly centre Van Rooi in Lieshout (NL). We were immediately given a tour of the lairage, where sows were being housed at the time. The animals were calm and resting, with enough space to lie on their sides without disturbing one another. The sawdust bedding was clean and fresh, and the overall impression was positive. Van … [Read more...] about Visit to pig assembly centre Van Rooi in Lieshout (NL)

Members of the organization The Vegan Village stand together on a chicken field

Good news from our colleagues at The Vegan Village in Uganda. After working with us and WACPAW in the field in Ghana last year, they now know the power of direct action and the importance of working on the ground. They now go to visit livestock markets to relieve the suffering of animals. 01.09.2014_Horsemarket_Elst_missing_eye

Two teams from Eyes on Animals visited this yearly horse for the first time early in the morning and this afternoon. Unfortunately during the inspection of the first team, between 4.30 and 7.30, neither the NVWA (Dutch government authorities) nor an extra veterinarian were present to be able to check on horses that looked sick and on horses with docked tails. In the … [Read more...] about Inspection of Elst horse market, NL

Inspection of Purmerend calf market, NL

August 12, 2014

Leeuwarden_kalveren

Today we made an unannounced visit to Purmerend calf market. It remains unfortunate that the current milk industry is based on separating calves from their mothers immediately after birth in order to keep the price of milk as low as possible, and then at only 2 weeks of age sending many of them to a market which adds further stress to these young and fragile animals. But … [Read more...] about Inspection of Purmerend calf market, NL
