Rondeel is moving towards a more humane catching method!

March 10, 2017

Upright catching

After more than a year of 'tough dialogue' with the poultry industry, EonA finally succeeded: Rondeel – an egg producing company – has decided that they are going to develop a new way of catching based on the EonA Dutch method we have been teaching (keeping birds upright instead of grabbing them by their legs and stuffing them into crates while upside down). Their decision … [Read more...] about Rondeel is moving towards a more humane catching method!

Practical-training of Official Road Inspectors (ITD) in Opole region, Poland

February 24, 2017

Today we joined ITD inspectors on the road to implement yesterday’s theory in practice. Two livestock trucks are randomly pulled off the road to be checked. One is a national pig transport and the other a national cattle transport. We are pleased to see that there was only one minor welfare concern in the pig transport (one divider was not solid to the ground), while the … [Read more...] about Practical-training of Official Road Inspectors (ITD) in Opole region, Poland

February 23, 2017

Today Eyes on Animals and AWF|TSB gave a training course on Regulation (EC) 1/2005 to a group of 40 Official Road Inspectors (ITD) and government veterinarians from the Opole region in Poland. We witness some lively discussions and sense some frustration in cases where law is not perfect enough to really protect animals. We appreciate such discussions a lot, even if there … [Read more...] about Training of Official Road Inspectors and veterinarians in Opole, Poland

Practical training of Road Inspection Officers in Kozieglowy

February 22, 2017

TSB|AWF and Eyes on Animal representatives join Road Inspection Officers (ITD) again to inspect animal transports going along a busy road going north-east. Two cattle transports are stopped. We are pleased to see that one transport had everything right: both the animals and documents. We only had some concerns about too much space for two bulls in a big compartment. The … [Read more...] about Practical training of Road Inspection Officers in Kozieglowy

TSB|AWF and Eyes on Animal representatives join Road Inspection Officers (ITD) to inspect animal transport during the night. 5 livestock trucks were stopped, all got warnings or fines up to PLN 1000 (Eur 250). The findings included very poor conditions with rusty floors and missing partitions in pig trucks, and bad curtains and broken crates in poultry transport, resulting … [Read more...] about Practical training of Road Inspection Officers in Zernica, Poland

Animal welfare course and EonA Dutch catching of Rondeel chickens with catchers from Den Ouden Oirschot

January 23, 2017

On Monday evening - for the first time in The Netherlands – the company “Rondeel” chose to catch and load an entire flock of their 3500 birds with us using the much more humane “EonA Dutch method”. Normally, chickens are grabbed by their legs (3-5 per hand) and then stuffed headfirst into transport crates. With the EonA Dutch method, the chickens are picked up a maximum of … [Read more...] about Animal welfare course and EonA Dutch catching of Rondeel chickens with catchers from Den Ouden Oirschot
