Stunning Animals before slaughter is a religious duty

October 27, 2025

Asalet Sancakdaroglu, our inspector and trainer in Turkey, has published an educative report explaining why rendering animals unconscious—and therefore insensible to pain—before slaughter is a religious duty in Islam. Drawing on his extensive experience, Asalet trains professionals in the use of both captive-bolt and electrical stunning methods and has inspected hundreds of slaughterhouses that operate with and without stunning. His deep practical knowledge gives weight to his interpretation of the relevant passages in the Qur’an and the essence of the Hadiths, showing that Halal not only means lawful, healthy, and safe to eat, but also demands the highest standards of animal welfare. Asalet holds a diploma in Humane Slaughter from the BSI Institute, further reinforcing his expertise in this field.

🐄 Koe met kalf aan de voet produceert niet automatisch minder melk.

Onderzoek laat zien dat de totale melkproductie vergelijkbaar kan zijn. Het verschil zit vooral in de melk die het kalf zelf opneemt. 👇
