Slaughterhouse Henk Worst shows no interest in a visit from Eyes on Animals

March 7, 2022

Early this year we approached slaughterhouse Henk Worst with the request to visit their operation. Despite several attempts (via email and phone), we have not received a reaction from them to date. Our conclusion, unfortunately, is that they are not open to our visit and advice.

Eyes on Animals is contacted on a regular basis by small scale, animal friendly pig farmers who want to know where to best have their pigs slaughtered. Small slaughterhouses , where there is more time for the animals and CO2 stunning is not standard practice have our preference. To offer good advice to these farmers however, we first want to visit the slaughterhouses and see if improvements are necessary. We therefore started contacting the smaller slaughterhouses. We were already able to visit several slaughterhouses, such as Feenstra in Drachten, Willems in Druten and Agri+4 in Lichtenvoorde. They were open to our visit and advice. We sincerely hope that Henk Worst will eventually follow their lead and take on a more transparent attitude towards us.

In februari staat The Animal Law Foundation in de rechtszaal. Zij vechten het besluit van de Britse overheid aan om het vangen van kippen aan de poten opnieuw toe te staan. In plaats van te handhaven, wil de overheid de wet versoepelen.
De wereld op zijn kop.

Tens of millions of chickens are still carried upside down by their legs – a practice that causes severe suffering.

When the law tried to prevent this, the government weakened it.

In February, we’ll be in court challenging that decision.
Public scrutiny matters. Please share.
