Today we are with Acisiz Kesim, the new Turkish animal-welfare campaign group that is educating Turkish consumers about what we do and about the difference between halal slaughter with and without stunning. Acisiz Kesim had organized a visit to a slaughterhouse near Samsun today. The purpose of the visit was for Asalet from Eyes on Animals to show the slaughtermen how a captive bolt stunner works and the obvious welfare advantages of first rendering cattle unconscious before cutting their throat. During the training, Asalet first showed the slaughtermen how to stun properly and how to check for signs indicating cattle are properly unconscious. All cattle were stunned by the slaughtermen under guidance of Asalet. This plant is now equipped with one of our captive bolt stunners and box of cartridges as they expressed wanting to continue to use it. EonA and Acisiz Kesim will return to visit this plant in the near future to provide further assistance.
