Success booked in Turkey ! A cattle slaughterhouse in Samsun followed our training in how to use a captive bolt stunner to render animals unconscious before cutting their throat. They are convinced to make the switch and an article about our work (see photo) and this plant was in the Samsun newspaper yesterday, a city of 800,000 people. Slowly, Eyes on Animals and Haytap are de-bunking the myth that animals slaughtered for Halal means they must be fully alert and conscious when their throat is cut. More and more Turkish religious authorities now understand the purpose of stunning and promote it as a way of reducing animal pain and fear during slaughter. It is a long road of education and dialogue but together with HAYTAP we will not give up.
