Revisit of Agri4+ slaughterhouse to see the implemented improvements

April 5, 2022

Today we revisited Agri4+ slaughterhouse in Lichtenvoorde (NL). On our recommendation they have made adjustments to their stunning-pen. It was made smaller; in smaller groups, pigs experience less stress and the waiting times are shorter. The floor was made anti-slip to reduce chances of pigs slipping and injuring themselves. We are pleased this slaughterhouse has put our recommendations into practice. The position of the electrodes for stunning, the noise level and the presence of some gaps (where piglets can get their legs stuck in) were still a concern. Agri4+ has let us know that they will improve this. They will close the gaps and hang up a big poster in the stunning-pen with an image of the electrodes being positioned correctly. This will remind workers at all times to position the electrodes correctly (in between the eyes and the ears) and the importance of this. To reduce the noise level they want to keep the door to the stun-pen always closed. We want to thank Agri4+ for their efforts.
