German TV (NDR) again broadcasted a documentary about the pain and suffering caused by CO₂ gas, which is used in most large pig slaughterhouses in the West. 80% of pigs in Germany are forced to inhale high concentrations of CO2 which causes panic, chemical burning of the mucous membranes and suffocation.
This time, however, they also showed the “new” alternative: the improved automatic electric stunning system that Eyes on Animals developed together with a large Dutch pig slaughterhouse that has this design in place since 2021. Slaughter is never nice but this radically improved, automatic electric stunning design clearly results in much less panic and pain than CO₂ gas causes.
We are encouraged to see that Germany is showing increasing interest in this alternative to CO₂ gas that we worked so hard on.
Only with a viable alternative can CO₂ finally be phased out. Otherwise, everyone agrees CO2 is problematic, but no concrete steps are taken to replace it. Watch the documentary HERE.
