Eyes on Animals and Dr. Temple Grandin publish an article together on CABI

July 11, 2025

Today CABI published a Case Study article that we wrote together with Dr. Temple Grandin. The article is about the changes we made to the design and pig handling methods at a high throughput pig slaughterhouse using automatic electric stunning.  The changes drastically decreased suffering and fear.  This brand new design of automatic electric stunning is now a viable and more humane alternative to the painful CO2 gas stunning method. We hope by creating an effective and better alternative, CO2 gas stunning can finally be phased out.

CABI (Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International) is a globally recognized, impactful publishing organization that provides trusted research and information on agriculture, animal behaviour and welfare, and related animal sciences. Its published work significantly influences animal welfare by informing better handling, housing, and ethical treatment practices to industry and scholars. To read the article, please click HERE (the abstract is free but there is a fee from CABI to purchase the whole article).
