We are very pleased to announce that the Japan Meat Technology Institute (JAMTI) has translated Eyes on Animals‘ report, „Seeing your slaughterhouse through the eyes of a pig“, into Japanese. This comprehensive document, which spans over 200 pages, offers practical advice on reducing suffering in slaughterhouses. To make it as user-friendly as possible, the report includes many photos and videos to help those in the industry apply the recommendations effectively. You can view the translated report here.
The translated document has now been distributed to all JAMTI members, including those in the meat and slaughter industries, as well as relevant government officials. This marks a significant step, ensuring that our recommendations will contribute to reducing animal suffering across Japan.
Earlier this year, Eyes on Animals gave a presentation to JAMTI, outlining key steps to reduce stress and pain during the handling of animals before automatic electric stunning. The presentation was well received, with JAMTI expressing strong interest in the recommendations and their potential application in facilities.
JAMTI has been regularly updating us on their progress in adopting these standards, and we’re encouraged by the commitment they’ve shown. This represents an important step towards better animal welfare practices in Japan, and we are proud to be part of this positive development.
