Considerable media attention for our heat stress inspections

July 17, 2022

Last week, we carried out inspections at several slaughterhouses during the days with high temperatures. On those days the ‘heat protocol’ is in effect and we wanted to see if this was in fact implemented correctly.

We found various livestock trucks and slaughterhouses that were following the protocol, but unfortunately there were also instances where this was not the case. The video footage we collected during these inspections was picked up by many different media.

These videos received a lot of attention, which is crucial in creating transparency for the public and consumers of animal products. Only this way, the public can see for itself what happens in this industry, right and wrong.

We immediately informed the authorities (NVWA) and the parties involved (the transporters, the slaughterhouses) of our findings as well. This is standard practice for us. By exposing these violations, we hope more effort will be put into implementing the heat protocol in the future.

Dear friends,

I first discovered the bad side of factory-farming and industrial slaughter when I was a young girl of twelve.
When I visited a livestock market I saw a pile of sick animals left for dead behind the building. At a huge industrial poultry slaughterhouse, I saw dozens of live chickens walking around the bloody floor…
