Eyes on Animals has paid an unannounced visit to slaughterhouse Tomassen in Someren in the Netherlands today. They let us in at once and we were allowed to watch the slaughter process from up close. The NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority) veterinarian and the foreman/slaughterman gave a detailed explanation. On the moment we arrived there were only two bovines left waiting to be slaughtered. The slaughter of the cow went smoothly. The calf turned round; there was too much space in the slaughter box, which is more suitable for the Belgian Blue cows and rosé calves that are mostly slaughtered here. At this slaughterhouse also pigs are slaughtered. We were invited to come back to watch the slaughter process of pigs. We will definitely respond to this suggestion and thus will return here. We thank this slaughterhouse for the welcoming reception.
