Meeting with German veterinarian specialized in reducing suffering at slaughter

November 23, 2013

23.11.2013_Frankfurt_meet_DrEllen__5
Dr. Ellen Eser did her PhD on the animal welfare situation at Turkish slaughterhouses in 2006, in which she evaluated 96 slaughterhouses there.  Since then she has worked for BSI, a German company specialized in improving welfare during slaughter and giving trainings to slaughter personnel. She is an expert on equipment and behavioural techniques to reduce stress and pain for animals inside slaughterhouses. Today a team from EonA and AWF met with her in Germany to discuss our reports of the Turkish slaughterhouses we visited in June, our follow-up work so far and to get further advice on what steps we should now take. We would like to thank her for taking the time to meet with us on a Saturday – it was well worth it as we now feel very prepared for our upcoming welfare-project at the Turkish slaughterhouses.
