Training electric stunning at sheep slaughterhouse near Izmir, Turkey

January 28, 2025

This morning the EonA team, greatly assisted by Dr. Miguel A. Arranz and humane slaughterman Aled Daniels from Bristol University, showed a slaughterhouse near Izmir the benefits of pre-stunning sheep before hoisting and cutting their throats. They saw for themselves the difference it made in reducing a lot of pain and fear for the sheep all while maintaining meat quality. Thirty sheep were rendered unconscious while standing on all 4 legs. Normally these sheep are shackled and hoisted off the floor while fully conscious. See film to understand the difference stunning can make.

Thank-you to the slaughterhouse for being open to our visit and curious to learn about stunning. We will stay in touch with them, and should they decide to switch over to stunning, we will help them adopt it properly.
