Training course given to Hunland livestock drivers

May 15, 2017

Practical trainingToday Eyes on Animals was hired by Hunland Transport, one of Europe’s largest animal-transport companies with its headquarters in Hungary, to give our animal-welfare training course to 15 of their drivers. Our training course consists of 3-hours of theory to cover how to best take care of animals during loading, the journey and unloading and how to avoid delays and difficulties due to incorrect paper work and weather conditions. After the practical part where an empty truck is thoroughly checked that everything is in working order before loading animals (all fans work? the drinking system and water pressure are ok? there are sufficient access doors? ladder, extra feed and bedding on board?). Then animals are loaded taking into consideration their size to make sure they have enough headspace and room to move.

Hunland Transport is trying to achieve standards within their company that go beyond the basic minimum protection offered by the often vague EU legislation.

They were an open-minded and engaged group to train. We would like to thank Hunland Transport for their serious efforts.

Dear friends,

I want to tell you about Akuba. A young sow we met last week in Ghana. We were there in the first two weeks of December, inspecting and improving slaughterhouses together with the local NGO WACPAW. Our goal: curb the intense suffering of animals that is going on there.

#slacht
