Proposal at the European Survey Committee: increase minimum transport age of goat-kids

January 11, 2021

Dutch Member of the European Parliament Anja Hazekamp has announced that she will submit a proposal to the European Survey Committee of animal transport to increase the minimum age that goat kids must be before being allowed to be transported. This is in response to a shocking inspection report by Eyes on Animals which revealed that many male-goat kids, from the Dutch dairy goat industry, are already transported to slaughter at only 7 days of age. Transporting kids at this age is unacceptable because they are still unsteady on their feet and very fragile because they are still completely dependent on milk.
