AWF|TSB and EonA were in eastern Poland today to help the ITD (official Polish Road Police Inspectors) with checking livestock trucks passing by on the road. We stopped one international cattle truck and several national poultry trucks.
We were pleased that the quality of the poultry vehicles this time is better than previous years and their compliance with Regulation 1/2005 has improved dramatically. In 2016, we ran a practical training course for the ITD in this area, as a result of which numerous fines were imposed on companies transporting poultry in deplorable conditions. The fines seemed to have had an effect as now the situation is much better.
Still, one truck transporting poultry was in an unacceptable technical condition. The driver was told that he cannot continue driving the truck. Owing to a manipulation of the breaks and overused tires, the vehicle posed a risk both for the animals transported and other vehicles on the roads. The poultry transport company was ordered to send another vehicle to the spot so that birds could be reloaded on a technically-safe truck. An official veterinarian came to supervise the reloading.
