Eyes on Animals was together with Welfarm and the French gendarmes (that we gave a theory training to last month) in northern France to stop and check on animal trucks passing by. A Dutch truck loaded with sheep coming from Harlingen and heading to a slaughterhouse in southern France was inspected. Although there were fortunately no violations to the EU animal transport law, transporting sheep for 21 hours to just be slaughtered is unfortunate.
Nevertheless we would like to thank the drivers for being open and doing their best within the law (water tank was full, all fans worked, adequate headspace and thick bedding) and to the gendarmes for helping get the animal-welfare during transport laws into practice.
