Meeting the influential theologian about Islam and the need to accept stunning in Turkish abattoirs

September 20, 2023

Asalet from Eyes on Animals met with Islam theologian professor Dr. Faruk Beşer. He is a respected and influential theologian. Asalet told him about the suffering he sees inside Turkish abattoirs and the difference stunning animals (rendering them unconscious) prior to tethering, shackling and cutting their throats, makes to the level of fear and pain they experience. They also talked about the Koran and Hadiths and Asalet argued in favour of always siding with the method that causes less pain. Professor Faruk Beşer promised to give this topic some serious thought and read more on our work and observations in Turkey and will then write a public statement on it.

This year marks 68 years since Laika was launched into space. She circled the planet 2,570 times, before the capsule reentered the atmosphere & disintegrated. What fear. What pain did she feel. Laika, we have not forgotten you. It is important that we remember her story.🙏🏻
