TSB|AWF and EonA teams are documenting the situation on the Bulgarian/Turkish border Kapitan Andreevo/Kapikule. In the night, the team on the Bulgarian side inspects nine long-distance transports of pregnant heifers waiting in a very long line-up to cross the border. The access to the border on both lanes is completely blocked by trucks. Therefore, the animal transports are forced to wait about 1.5 hour together with other trucks before reaching the border – an unacceptable situation and a clear animal welfare problem. Even though this night the temperature is just under 30˚C, and the animals are not suffering from severe heat stress, still the team documents a Slovakian heifer with breathing problems. Another heifer is lying down with a swelling on a front leg.
