Inspection of Hefter truck with young calves parked in Poland

May 1, 2015

Hefter truck on the roadToday a team from Eyes on Animals and Animal Welfare Foundation observed a truck from the German company Hefter, loaded with young Lithuanian calves, parked at the WIMA control post in western Poland for 9 hours without unloading the animals to give them the required 24-hr rest and milk. Our team gave immediate notice to the NVWA in the Netherlands who sent a team out on the field to await this truck should it cross over The Netherlands. The truck ended up being destined for Belgium. We have sent complaints about this violation and a request to the Belgian and German authorities to take action against Hefter. We would like to thank the NVWA for being so attentive and for helping with the investigation.
