Eyes on Animals, together with an investigator from Protection Mondiale des Animaux de Ferme, were busy inspecting trucks at the French/Spanish border. A livestock truck with Romanian calves was stopped. We noticed that the noses of the 3 month old calves on board were extremely dry. The gendarmes were present and ordered the chauffeur to turn on his water system. It was a sight EonA has never seen before- all the calves ran towards the water and drank 35 minutes straight until the tank was empty. The gendarmes handed out two fines, 1 for the water nipples being too high on the top floor, and another for not having provided water to the animals on board. The whole incident was broadcasted on France Bleue radio and France National television. To watch the news item click here.
