In March and April Eyes on Animals paid Halal slaughterhouse IMPS in Breukelen a few unexpected visits. IMPS slaughters sheep and goats, both with and without stunning.
In March we had an introductory meeting with the manager of IMPS and he let us know he would consider a visit by Eyes on Animals. Since he didn’t follow up on this we decided to visit the slaughterhouse again in April. We found a truck with sheep and goats outside. The compartment with sheep was overcrowded and a number of sheep showed signs of heat stress. Yet the truck remained in the sun for over three hours.

While on location we tried to contact the manager of IMPS, unfortunately without any luck. It wasn’t until the end of May before IMPS let us know via email they do not have the time to meet nor talk with Eyes on Animals.
Due to our previous observations at IMPS (long waiting periods and sheep with heat stress) we will keep an extra close eye on this slaughterhouse.
