Another Imam confirms that stunning animals prior to cutting their throats is allowed in Islam and the meat is Halal

October 6, 2020

Inspector Asalet from Eyes on Animals interviewed Imam Yalçın İçyer about the question of stunning animals and the definition of Halal. This Imam explains that rendering animals unconscious (insenstivie to pain) prior to cutting their throats and de-bleeding them is the correct thing to do. Imam Yalçın İçyer studied at the Ankara Faculty of Religion in Turkey. He then was a professor at Ankara Demetevler Gymnasium and is currently an Imam in Essen, Germany. He has published many books about Islam.

Please watch the video (in Turkish). Eyes on Animals has been working in a respectful manner since 2013 with Turkish slaughterhouses and Turkish Religious authorities to promote a better understanding of animal-welfare and slaughter techniques that cause less pain. We train slaughtermen in Turkey how to use captive bolt pistols and explain how they work to all parties involved in this issue there. We lease out our captive bolt pistols to slaughterplants who take this issue seriously and now perform pre-stunning on the animals in their plants.
